    Many people claim to be excellent debaters and they know their information very well, however they know it from a limited skew and their own personal perception.     If you are a good debater or well-versed in any subject then you should already know all the points of contention of the other side. You should know them so well that you can switch sides at the debate table and give yourself a good run for your own money. Until you can do that you really don't understand the debate and therefore you do an injustice to your own side or perspective.
