I take a little heart in the fact that I’m not the only person to want everyone to see and envy my new phone, but it seems to be the quickest way to get a mobile phone stolen.

However, I definitely know that having no phone will lose me major status with “the group.” In that group the reason I have for not having a mobile phone is irrelevant, it’s all about the image.
Another fact I learned is that the thieves were probably listening to my ring tone when I got a call. Apparently, a lot of people seem to find loud ring tones very annoying, and broadcasting the type of tone I had gave a general idea of the type of mobile phone I had.

There are people like me who just know that my new phone is way too cool and in demand not to be stolen so I’m taking steps to take to limit the damage. I was advised to record the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number from my new mobile phone. I have given the IMEI to the police so that if I should ever lose my phone or have it stolen again them it helps protect from anyone racking up hundreds of pounds worth of calls on my contract. The last thing I (or anyone) would want to worry about after a theft is a huge bill. That would really lower my status permanently!
