What's The Value of Your Reputation?
If you have high quality support services and polices, and your employee satisfaction surveys show that your employees are happy, does that mean your customers actually experience results that match or exceed your brand promise? Is the culture of your employee base consistent with the values of your company? Are different employee groups delivering quite different experiences to your customers, like sales and service appearing to speak a different language? These inconsistencies create disjointed experiences for customers who will be constantly adjusting to your company’s different styles, behaviors, standards of performance, and promises. This makes it very difficult to develop a sense of affinity and loyalty with your company. The Service-Profit Chain developed by Heskett, Sasser and Schlesinger (1997) from Harvard Business School establishes relationships between profitability, customer loyalty, and employee satisfaction, loyalty, and productivity. This model suggests that profit and growth are stimulated primarily by customer loyalty, which is a direct result of customer satisfaction. Satisfaction is greatly influenced by the value of service provided to customers. Satisfied, loyal, and productive employees create value. Employee satisfaction, in turn, results primarily from high quality support services and policies that enable employees to deliver results to customers. While the Service-Profit Chain model provides an essential f

    Learn When To Seek Guidance
When Should You Seek Guidance From The Professors Of Your Courses? There is never a bad time to seek academic guidance in your courses. Professors love when students drop by for office hours to discuss assignments or any questions the readings might have brought up for you. You should especially seek your professor's guidance if something in the course material is very confusing to you, if you've gotten a bad grade, or a combination of the two. Teachers do not like to hand bad grades back to students -- I don't, anyway -- and most are happy and relieved when you come around to find out how to take corrective action. When Should You Seek Guidance From Your Academic Adviser? You should make an appointment with your academic adviser to discuss any questions you have regarding your selection of a major, as well as any other concerns you have relating to your future academic experience at college. Think of your academic adviser as a guide who is helping you map out your future, because that's his or her job. When Should You Seek Guidance From A Career Counselor?Like any of the above examples, you're never making the wrong move by visiting a career counselor. Some students start plotting out their post-baccalaureate lives freshman year, or even before. Though these students might be exceptions to the rule, they have made a great start on finding out what career they want and getting it. If you are still in the process of figur
Managing a business, as you know, is both an art and a science. You can learn quite a bit from materials available in the market. However, you can get the feel of the business only when you apply those lessons and suggestions, interact with people experienced professionals and then go back again to your lessons. Now you are armed with your own valuable experience. But the question is - what is so special about today’s Business Environment? Is today’s business environment something different than what it was earlier? The answer would be a firm ‘yes’.

Earlier the world was divided into isolated zones. If you were given the task of leading a small business, you were expected to keep your views confined to your particular zone only. But now, the world is one entity, despite the political divides. Communication technology has advanced so much that two persons in two different hemispheres can get in touch any moment and instantly. You can travel from one part of the world to the other at very high speed.

With technological advancement business avenues have gone up rapidly. Let us take a simple example. Look around you and see the profusion of electronic gadgets in the market. But against all these rosy images, pressure on today’s business leaders is on the rise since competition is getting stiff by the day. Validate Critical Data
My favorite project management mantra is “Validate Critical Data”. I don’t remember what wise teacher I learned this from but it is one of those sayings that rings through my head when I’m jumping into a new project. After many years it continues to be an important part of my project management success (when it is done right) and an unfortunate contributor to my project failures when it is neglected. Below are some keys to correctly validating critical data. The word critical is not excess flab in this phrase. You shouldn’t try to validate all information – just the information that has been handed to you that effects your project approach. Usually it involves getting the right information about the project deliverables (scope), budget, and schedule. This can not be soft data.Often a project manager will inherit much of their project information. This second-hand information is highly suspect, because just like the old children’s game where the story changes a little bit each time it is retold, until it is far from the truth. The information you inherit is always worthy of validating. Other times, even when the information was correct initially as time passes the project environment or facts change. And the added benefit of this practice is to cause the sponsor to think a bit deeper about the issue than they did initially, and have the opportunity to change their answers.I’ve had many initiation meetings where, when asked to valida

Job Interview Skills - Going for a Job
You hear all sorts of rules about job interview success:* people decide about you in the first 10 seconds * you have to make a good first impression * always ask insightful job interview questions * learn as much as you can about the company * they'll probably ask interview questions designed to trip you up * have some quick answers to interview questions at the readyNot bad, as far as rules go: some of them make perfect sense. But getting the job you want isn't about following rules or giving the 'right' interview answer. It's about presenting yourself in the most authentic way that takes care of you and the interviewers at the same time.So many people chuck their chances away: they don't take enough care and interview preparation time so that the whole process is enjoyable, stimulating and informative for both parties.Your First Opportunity: Getting The InterviewIf you want the job, chances are so do about a million other eager people, so your application has to stand out from the crowd. British CVs are usually dull and boring, and people create them as historical documents, rather than as marketing tools. You can boost your chances of getting an interview by making your CV look and 'sound' special.Use good paper, design a personal logo, fiddle with the layout to make it easy on the eyes. Edit it ruthlessly. People always put in too much detail. Highlight the bits that rela

    True Life Coaching Success Story
“Hey Man who are you!” I was sitting on a wall next to the Armory Park outside the Peabody Essex in historic Salem when this “Goth Chick”. Not exactly Goth, well you do not expect many of them to have a southern accent. It was more than her dress that made her seem out of place, or the accent. For this is Salem, and Salem loves Vampires and things of Halloween, but Red (for that is what I will call her in this article.) seemed a long way from home. Not the one in Tenenesee, but the one in her heart. And she was running out of time to get there. For she was pregnant and if she could not find her way home, her child would not stand a chance. The night before I had seen an equally strange guy the night before outside a bar trying to sell prescription pharmaceuticals of Red's. Tall lanky sort of fellow. Looked like what Howdy Doody would look like if he grew up in Compton. I was polite and got to know him as well over the next months.See the two of them rode up from Tennessee on mountain Bikes hoping from shelter to shelter. Nothing new in Salem. See Salem is the Mecca for misfit toys from the country. See paddling your feet down the cobble stones of this mystical city and glancing “Oh My God stares!” at laurie Cabot, One of our local witches, will take away all the pain and injury you suffered from your parents and home towns injustices and discrimination of who you really are. Well it did not work for those young youth heading to the Hol

    Managing Service Minutes
Benjamin Franklin is attributed as the first person who said, “Time is money.” Well, that was over 200 years ago and you know, for Service Managers, it couldn’t be any more true today than it was back then. That is the essence of what Service Managers do everyday. They turn a technician’s time into labor revenue. For a service department to be profitable they have to turn the time paid to technicians into dollars and do it efficiently. Many dealerships are not paying enough attention to the relationship between time and money. And that one area represents one of the greatest opportunities we have in improving service departmental profits. So let’s see how we can improve this situation and start returning the profits we need and deserve. We will start at the really basic level. What does a Service Department do to make money? They hire technicians who work on equipment and they charge the customers for doing that. In other words they hire techs and bill out their time one way or another. Sure there can, and should be, other income streams such as outside labor and materials, sublets, shop supplies, vehicles etc, but the basis of any service department is to sell time. They buy time from their employees and the sell it to their customers, and hopefully at a profit.OK, so now that we all agree that the function of a service department is to sell time can we also agree that the service manager has to manage this resource effi

So unless one manages his business with all seriousness and with full utilization of his skills, it is quite possible that instead of rising up the business ladder, he may fall head down. Therefore he has to learn the intricacies of different aspects of managing today’s business environment.

While you manage your business you have to constantly go through many formalities that have to co-relate with your basic business activities. You have to register with many associations, maintain a list of different authorities so that you can seek advice and help, whenever the need arises. Be conversant with the basics of tax matters and relevant rules and regulations.

Acquiring or organizing funds is the most important task. But it may not be as difficult as others that lie ahead. You can take loans from banks and even from your well-wishers. Lease financing and factoring are other sources. You can very well go public. You will succeed this way or the other if there is an able leader at the helm of affairs in this venture. This is because a true leader can transform a business beginning from scratch into a gold mine. You too must have seen or heard that a small business often makes spectacular progress by the sole dedication and sincerity of its leader
