Recently my husband and I attended nuptials in Santa Fe. We are very close friends with the groom's family who live 1500 miles from the wedding site. The bride, a native Chilean, speaks and reads very little English. For numerous reasons, her family was unable to attend or help with any plans. The groom's mom did her best to help long distance, but that's so hard! Supposedly everything was under control...according to the groom. We all arrived in Albuquerque ready for the Santa Fe celebration. Actually everything went quite well during the shower and rehearsal dinner. The young couple chose the most historic and ornate church in Santa Fe, the Loretto Chapel.

The church itself has an incredible story concerning the miracle building of the interior circular staircase constructed by a drifter, but that's a story for another time. Anyway, the contract the bride and groom signed probably said something about dressing rooms being unavailable, but the bride couldn't read English, and the groom probably didn't read it! Royal Power Elite Family Trees and American Politics
Some complain that too many of the power elite family names keep showing up in American Politics and as heads of large multi-national conglomerate corporations. But is that a good thing or is it a bad thing? It makes sense to have a seamle

    A Gentle God
I was in my late teens when I first read Henry Barbusse's Under Fire, a novel set in the first world war trenches. It led me to consider the question: who does God listen to when He is bombarded with the prayers of different nations and re

Immigration Reform: Some Signs it is Getting Closer
There are several encouraging signs lately that there might be a solution soon to the illegal immigrant problem. At least, I am seeing news of groups, counties and states making proposals and passing legislation that show they are facing f
omething about dressing rooms being unavailable, but the bride couldn't read English, and the groom probably didn't read it! The distance between Albuquerque and Santa Fe meant that the bride and attendants ideally needed to dress after arrival at the wedding site; so the bride and bridesmaids all arrived with dresses in hand. This problem must have surfaced before because we were reluctantly offered the attached gift shop! Yes, it had huge windows, but thankfully they were somewhat covered!

The biggest problem was where to sit down to wiggle into those pantyhose! Mirrors for make-up application were non-existent also. We were also allowed only one and a half hours for the building since it was booked before and after. That's not long when the time must include decorating, dressing, photos, a ceremony in Spanish and English, and clean-up! The lesson here is to read the fine print, and don't assume dressing rooms are included; otherwise, you too might be dressing in the gift shop window!
