Key Employees Can and Will Leave Your Business, are You Prepared?
Very few businesses can claim to be prepared for the loss of key employees. Quite often it is an unexpected and unplanned for event that causes quite a bit of disruption to 'business as usual'.It is quite a gut wrenching experience to see an employee you have worked with over a period of time leaving your business. Even if the parting of ways is on good terms with a period of handover, you just know that there is so much information walking out the door with your former employee and there is nothing you can do about it.And this is only just the beginning...While labouring through a period of being understaffed and overwork

Is Your Yellow Page Ad a Success?
Every month you write that check to the directory publisher for your ad or program. Do you ever stop to wonder if it’s worth it? Have you had the same one for years? Is it bringing in the type of customer you prefer? Where do you go for these answers? The obvious choice is your local Yellow Page rep. But guess who he or she works for? If you answered, the customer, you’re in for a rude awakening. Let me put it this way; who pays their salary, commissions, and provides their benefits? So they actually work for publisher and owe all their allegiance to them. Therefore, when you ask them for information or explanations, it’s always tempered
I blogged a quick note on October 20th “Why Are You Working With Them?” and Zanna, one of my readers, asked a great question.

In my original blog post I suggested you’re wasting your time if you continue to work with people who say they’re going to….(and fill in the blank) but never actually pull it together to get started. The point is they never get started. We are not talking about what they agreed to do.

I suggested to “bless ‘um and move on.”

Zanna ask about a technique to do that. She also asked how to avoid getting caught in the cycle again when the person actually goes away but only for awhile. They return with the same promises but no action therefore starting the cycle again.

Here’s a great way to move past people who take your time (and their own) but don’t follow through. I call it “building a bridge.” The best way to get clear what this accomplishes is to consider what a bridge does. It allows us to move back and forth over something that otherwise would be difficult to maneuver.

And that’s just exactly what we’re going to do. We’re going to give these people a way to come back to work (the key word there – work). But the bridge will also allow us to disconnect so we can free ourselves up so we can work our business efficiently by working with those who want to build a business and are willing to take the action to do so.

Think Twice Before You Change Jobs
You've got the itch to change jobs. This might be a good time to make the move. The Wall Street Journal has just reported, "Job-seekers from rank-and-file workers to senior executives are preparing their resumes for what may be the strongest fall hiring season in years.""Before you jump to a new job, be certain you have good, sound reasons for wanting to make a change," advises Ramon Greenwood, senior career counselor at Common SenseAtWork.com. "You may believe you can accelerate your career with a new job. You may be bored or running away from personal problems."First, ask yourself, "Are there things I can do to

The Reason People Go Broke In Business
How many times have you seen businesses down the local city street start in big ways, then in less than five years and even at times, in less than a year-they are completely vanished from the spot? That is the big reality of to our today. In the United States 60-70% of businesses are expected to fail from the first moment they have initiated. Such statistics have to be analyzed in a different perspective as per my offline business experience and my online business current portfolio.According to my results, plenty of learning lessons from the past and many stories from many of my past and current partners- both offline and online busines

Aware Entrepreneurs - Three Practices to Blend Spirituality with Meaningful Work
There are a few good questions that business owners, teachers and leaders ask when they are planning for growth in their classroom, their company or their life. Who are my students or clients or friends – really? What makes them tick? And what is unique about the people I serve and regularly connect with?I have given these questions a lot of thought over the last few months. When the answer hit me it was a revelation I almost missed. I have identified one characteristic that runs through the hearts and minds of the majority of my clients. This one thing shapes their lives and our relationship. My clients, my family and many of my

First Interview: What Happens During The First Interview?
The first interview for a job is a basic indication that the company you are meeting with is interested in considering you as a potential new employee.I'm sure this is a fairly basic and understood statement. The important part is understanding the purpose of the first interview. It really helps if you can find out ahead of time exactly who you're meeting with during the first interview to get a sense as to what will actually take place during the interview. The first interview might be a screening interview with a member of Human Resources (HR) to assess your suitability to join the company. Let’s look at the steps it takes to build this bridge.

    - Compliment them with something that you like or admire about the way they do business or a trait they bring to the table that you think will be good for their business. (e.g. they are a good listener).

    - Then tell them you get that this is probably not the best time for them to build their business, because it’s tough for them to take action right now.

    - But when they’re ready to take action you’ll be right here ready to work with them.

This lets people off the hook and gives them a way to leave feeling good. (That is why you make sure you compliment them first. No one needs to go away feeling bad.)

If they do come back your job is to let them decide what they think is the first thing they need to do in order to move their business forward. Why does letting them decide make a difference?

You’re not telling them what to do. They are deciding what they need to do to move their business forward. Why is this important? What is the first thing a two year old says when you tell them to do something? We all know the answer to this even if we don’t have kids, NO. Does it get
