When most of us think about going to the beach, the thought is that you head to the ocean during the warmest months of the year. We used to be one of those people until we discovered that fall is an ideal time to head to the Gulf Coast to relax in the sun.

We found this out by accident when we combined a work trip and a family vacation to the Gulf Coast of Florida in mid-October. What we discovered when we got there was that the weather was perfect. It was in the 80s during the day and still warm enough to enjoy the Gulf waters or swim in the swimming pool. We loved that most days we were the only people at the pool and that the nearest family on the beach was about 25 yards away. The shops were all still open, but we didn't have to fight the crowds to look. There was no wait at any of the restaurants, which was a plus for a family with 2 ? year old twins!
