    Don't Be Fooled: Marketing Is Not About Meeting Customer Needs
    When I was being trained in marketing (more years ago than I care to recount), marketing was defined as anticipating and meeting customer needs. Today this definition of marketing is redundant and if you follow it, there is every chance you will fail.The average consumer today has all his or her basic needs already met. In the job interview, I told the office manager I had a good bit of medical terminology knowledge and some, “experience,” in a hospital. I deliberately did not tell her I had an RN degree and wanted this job as a secretary instead as this would probably have led to her looking at me wide eyed and then saying,”I’m sorry, you’re over qualified.” This job perked along just adequately, but it was here I realized I found transcription to be fun. I looked forward to it and was disappointed every day when the tape ran out after only an hour. I was one step closer to finding the profession of my dreams.
